Superior Chance looks top prospect at Addington

By

G. K. YULE

Superior Chance recorded a mile rate of about Imin 56sec when he held third behind Armalight and Bonnie’s Chance in the Benson and Hedges Free-for-all last Friday.

His awkward second-line barrier draw should not stop him winning the Ollivier Stakes, a mobile mile and first leg of the T.A.B. double at Addington Raceway tomorrow evening. Superior Chance has thrived lately and his placing on Friday came in only his second start for the season. He should be even better as a result of that race and he is entitled to be a dominating favourite. Melton Monarch, an impressive winner over 2600 m on New Zealand Cup day, is recognised as a stayer of tremendous potential. However, he should be capable of a merry mile in well under 2min and is expected to offer most opposition to Superior Chance.

Sweet Jessica had no luck when fourth behind Tarlad on Friday and with just a little better fortune, she could take a prominent part in the finish. Her race should have sharpened her considerably. Quiet Win, Right Bower, Lincmac and Royal Decision

are others entitled to consideration, but they will need luck to keep in sight of Superior Chance. Betting will be well spread in the New Zealand Premier Stakes, a handicap even for four-year-olds over 2600 m. The well-performed mares, Time’s Up and Karena, should be two of the leading contenders, but Stortford Lodge, Ranui Del, Wee Junior, Tussock and Farasan all look capable of adding interest to the finish. Selections: 535: Virginia City, Young Beau, Hindu Abbe. 6.5: Paleface Crockett, Star Prince, John’s Trail. 6.35: Arsenal, Kaydee, Active Donna. 7.10: Tarex, Roydon Magic, Tea Trader. 7.40: Jenover, Bossy Boy, Charlie

Lincoln. 8.10: Star Lady, Born To Win, Timely Win. 8.45:. Superior Chance, Melton Monarch, Sweet Jessica. 9.15: Oak Grove, Goodness, Villa
