Conversion unit for oil-fired heaters

The high cost of running an oil-fired heater means many people simply do not use them.

These heaters were extremely, popular in the 1960 s when oil was a cheap fuel — almost half the cost of elec-

tricty. Today, the reverse is true. Electricity is now a cheaper means of heating and with this in mind the Christchurch manufacturer, Avon Electric, Ltd, designed a suitable conversion unit. The company claims it can convert any oil or gas-fired space or central heating system with energy savings of up to 50 per cent.

Of special interest to home owners is the conversion unit for Underfloor Dual Wall Oil Burners, the Powerhouse 30.

According to Mr Colin Campbell of Avon Electric, the company is the only one to manufacture these conversion units. As the unit can be fitted into the existing heating cabinet, there are no expensive redecorating costs. The Powerhouse 30 also has a dual temperature clock thermostat which enables the homeowner to pre-set the temperature.
