Linwood new division one bowls leader

Linwood 1, the defending champion, scored its second successive eight point victory in division one of the Three-fours bowls competition on Saturday and it now tops the ladder with 22 points. South Brighton 11, which had been the pacemaker, had to settle for six points and with 21 points it lies second by a point from Linwood 111. These three teams are clear of the remainder, headed by Spreydon I and Woolston W.MC. I, both on 16, and Barrington I, on 14. Two teams, Canterbury I and’ Christchurch, share the division two lead. Both have 22 points, Woolston Park I is third with 21 and Fendalton II close up next with 20.

Rangiora 111 and Spreydon 11, both on 20 points, have a break on the division three field. Dallington II lies third, four points in arrears.

Elmwood 111, with 21 points, holds a one-point advantage over Fendalton V, Riccarton Racecourse II and Fendalton IV on the division four table. Cashmere ITI, on 18, comes next.

Rakaia, with 49 points, was the Wanning Cup leader going into Saturday’s third round. Lyttelton Watersiders, 43.25, Papanui, 42.40, Spreydon, 39, Canterbury, 38.25, and Woolston Park, 37.5, were closely bunched next.

Of the 106 Juniors fours teams 29 were unbeaten after two rounds and 17 of the 66 Robinson Shield' teams could make the same boasts.
