Law and order

Sir,—Reports from the Presbyterian conference make sad reading. Claiming that individual morality takes precedence over law and order is dangerous indeed. That individuals should listen to God rather than man is right but, as St Paul would say, be sure it is God you are listening to. The inference that God acts in strange ways is iniquitous. It is man who acts in strange ways. It is time the churches took a good look at themselves in the light of the Parables — Mat. 13 where Christ refers to the wheat and the tares, the good fish and the bad — we have them all in the institutionalised churches. The tragedy is that the tares and the bad fish are driving the wheat and the good fish out. As the South African Prime Minister has indicated, the Church is not above law and order.—Yours, etc., L. H. CARMICHAEL. November 12, 1981.
