Bowls innovation
The Linwood Bowling Club is ever ready to try something new, and a tournament
it has planned for tomorrow week will break new ground so far as the South Island is concerned.
It is an invitation event, with teams being made up of four members. For a start they will play as two pairs, in two and half hour games.
Then there will be a round of fours, of the same duration, and the time limit will be unchanged for the final round, which will have one member of the team playing singles and the other three triples.
Points will be awarded for each game won and the placings will be detei mined at the end of the day on the accumulated points of each combination. The pairs will be played under the Australian system of each member playing two bowls in turn.
The idea has been imported from the North Island where it has a growing popularity.
