Rally award
Shane Murland, aged 29, of Wellington (above) has won $2OOO as the 1981 Dunlop Rally Driver of the Year. “Shane showed a most impressive improvement over his previous year’s performance,” said Mr A. J. Smithard, secretary general of the Motorsport Association of New Zealand, announcing the winner of the Dunlop competition in Wellington. “He is gaining in ability all the time and is certainly a very consistent finisher which takes maturity and judgment as well as driving skill.” Mr Smithard chaired a panel of judges to select the 1981 Dunlop Rally Driver of the Year.
