PROFILE: The electorate mainly covers the city of Timaru, a provincial city which services the surrounding farmland. It takes in some farmland, 1978 results: Labour 9977; National 7794; Social Credit, 2180; Values, 512iLit is seen as a fairly safe Labour seat, and a 6.2 per cent swing to National would be needed for National to take the seat.
