Port’s marina progress good

Work has started on the small boat marina at Magazine Bay. Lyttelton Harbour, where 74 berths will be constructed. The chief engineer of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, Mr J. B. Bushell, said that piles had been driven and capped, and deck slabs were being laid for the main approach. There will be several different sizes of berths, starting at a cost of about $6OOO — the price to a boat-owner.

Mr Bushell said that 60 berths had been sold, and he expected the other 14 to “go quickly.”,It . 'was hoped that the berths would become available to their owners from the middle of next year, he said. A floating tyre breakwater will also be constructed. The present inner-harbour moorings at Lyttelton are being phased out over the next few years to provide space for increased port trade.
