Public Notices Public Notices New Zealand Electricity A division of the Ministry of Energy A JOINT STATEMENT bystandards association of New Zealand and The New Zealand Electricity Division of the Ministry of Energy made as a result of an examination of the only two Christmas tree decorative lighting sets bearing the New Zealand standard certification mark. 1. Christmas tree decorative lighting sets on sale and manufactured by Thorn Electrical Industries. Limited and bearing the New Zealand standard certification mark marginally do not comply with NZS63OI. The two-pin moulded plug has minor incorrect measurements, the cable is not marked with the manufacturer’s identification as required under the New Zealand Electrical' wiring regulations, and the fuse lamp is incorrectly colour coded. These marginal discrepancies do not create an electrical hazard and the lighting sets are currently approved for sale. 2. Christmas tree decorative lighting sets on sale and manufactured by Jackel International (N.Z.). Limited (previously trading as Impex International, Limited) and bearing the New Zealand standard certification mark comply with NZS63OI but the cable is not marked with the manufacturer’s identification as required under New Zealand Electrical wiring regulations. This does not create an electrical wiring regulations. This does not create an electrical hazard and the lighting sets are currently approved for sale. 3. General Comment: In addition the New Zealand Electricity Division of the Ministry of Energy has examined other brands of Christmas tree decorative lighting sets currently on sale in New Zealand but not bearing the New Zealand standard certification mark with the finding that none of the sets comply completely with the Electrical wiring regulations and with NZS63OI. As with the two sets bearing the New Zealand standard certification mark the points of non-compliance do not create an electrical hazard and the lighting sets are currently approved for sale. In the opinion of the division all sets when used correctly, are safe for normal indoor use. EXPLANATORY NOTE The New Zealand Electricity Division of the Ministry of Energy has authority under the New Zealand Electrical wiring regulations to require the withdrawal from sale of any electrical equipment that is considered to be hazardous. The exercise of the authority is normally in close co-operation with the standards association of New Zealand. Signed: K. D. McCOOL, Deputy Secretary; D. R. M. Pinfold, Director: ELECTRICITY DIVISION MINISTRY OF ENERGY
