Obituary Mr Ron Anderson

NZPA Canberra Mr Ronald Anderson, a New Zealand daily newspaper journalist, well known in rural Australia, died of cancer on November 7. He was' 49. Mr Anderson owned the weekly “Primary Industry Newsletter,” the fortnightly “World Agricultural Report,” and the monthly “Primary Industry Survey” — publications that had a world market and significant influence on agricultural business in Australia, and sometimes in New Zealand.

When told in August that he had cancer, he sold “Primary Industry Newsletter" and “Primary Industry Survey” to Australian press services in Canberra, while the “National Farmer” has taken over “World Agricultural Report” which is sold in 140 countries.

Mr Anderson distinguished himself early in his career by winning a Cadet Journalist of the Year award while working on the “Christchurch Star.”

He moved to Australia in the 1950 s and was the food and agriculture writer for the Melbourne daily .newspaper. the “Herald” from 1957 to 1963, and in 1965 set

up his own publishing business. He wrote books that became landmarks, such as “On the Sheep’s Back,” “Crisis on the Land,” and “Gold on Four Feet.” Mr Anderson is survived by his wife.
