Parents fight man
A husband and wife fought to protect their young daughter from a man in their Rangiora home early yesterday morning. Both parents were injured in the struggle, but they managed to hold the intruder until the police arrived. A man, aged 22, will appear in the District Court
this morning charged with attempted rape of a girl, aged 10, and aggravated assault on the husband and wife. Detective Sergeant N. Scott said yesterday that the man had been disturbed in the girl’s bedroom of the house in East Belt. The girl’s
parents both needed treatment by a doctor after the melee that resulted, but neither was admitted to hospital. It is believed that the police were called by another child who was in the house at the time. The girl was not seriously injured.
