Louise Malloy has own show

Louise Malloy, the soprano, presents a sevenprogramme show, “Louise and Friends,” screening Sunday nights on One. It was produced by Peter Coates.

Her friends include the pianist, Rae de Lisle; the conductor, James Robertson; the principal comic with the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company, Grahame Clifford; the singers, Patricia Lawrey, Tony Benfell, Marie Landis,

Anne Young, Lynne Cantion, Flora Edwards, Timothy Hawley, David Ward; the entertainer, Marcus Craig; the broadcaster, Brian Clark; Harry Haythorne of the New

Zealand Ballet Company, Jamie Bull with the Impulse Dance Theatre, and Jeremy Commons of the New Zealand Opera Company. The shows contain songs and informal interviews with each guest.

"That was the most terrifying part!” said Louise Malloy. “I’d never done any interviewing before and I was really worried that it wouldn’t come off. ‘T found it helped if we had a chat beforehand, and could get to know one another a bit better. “Some of my guests were really marvellous — they took the burden right off my shoulders!” Louise, who lives in Milford, Auckland, will be wellknown to television viewers as the soprano, Marjorie Manners, of “Radio Times” fame. A highly versatile singer who learnt her craft with Beatrice Webster, Louise has worked with Perkel Productions, a small touring operatic group based in Auckland as well as appearing on "Stars on Sunday” and in television variety shows. She began her musical career as a folk-singer and teacher of the folk guitar before branching out into other musical styles. Louise said'she loved making “Louise and Friends,” although the shows were over! She was quite sure the terror showed in her face in the first programme. Tomorrow’s show, the first in the series, features Rae de Lisle and James Robertson, conductor of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Concertmaster for the programme is Peter Schaffer. Louise’s songs for tomorrow night’s show include “Bailero” from Songs of the Auvergne by Canteloube; “Zueignung,” (Devotion) by Richard Strauss and “Chut Chut” from Songs of the Auvergne by Canteloube.
