Schmidt warning
Chancellor Helmut Schmidt has predicted the worst winter in 30 years for the world’s economy. He told the West German Trades Union Federation that the economy’s most urgent need was for a cut in interest rates. He coupled his forecast with a warning against allowing this to trigger overreaction, which could only worsen the situation.—Dortmund.
