Smart pair at Waikouaiti

By

G. K. YULE

Viewfield Skipper and Skipmaster, both four-year-old geldings by the Meadow Skipper horse, Nordel Skipper, have strong form backgrounds which suggest that. they will dispute the finish to the Waikouaiti Cup tomorrow.

Vita Man and Amaze could be the hardest for this pair to beat, although Roseland Adover will be entitled to consideration should the track become soft. Much interest will centre in the meeting between a number of talented young pacers in the S6OOO Waikouaiti Three-year-old Stakes.

Norton was an impressive winner at Oamaru last Saturday and his handicap of 20m is unlikely to be enough to keep him from playing a prominent part in the finish. Enterprise, unbeaten in his two starts this time up, and Portfolio, unbeaten in three starts to date, will also be in demand, but they will be all out to beat Mister Wood Chips, which had little in his favour when twice placed at Forbury Park earlier in the month.

Then there are pacers of the calibre of Kata Hoiho, Master Will, Free Win, Lil Abner and Mel’s Boy, all of which look capable of adding interest to this race, which will be run over 2600 m when run over 2000 m last year but there was much interference.
