Ay Em shows high speed
Ay Em attempts a middle distance at the Banks peninsula meeting, but he was kept to a sprint journey for his final trial at Riccarton on Thursday and he performed with high speed and pleasing dash. Partnered by his stablemate Pennianne. Ay Em hurried over 600 on the trial grass in an impressive 35.2. Equally impressive was Magellan’s 36 on the plough in the hands of his apprenticed race rider, Danny Crozier. Magellan was one of few tried at speed on the plough, and this strong four-year-old’s run offered evidence that he has thrived since his recent campaign in Southland.
The Hastings-trained Kanga’s Lad, one of Magellan’s rivals at Motukarara,
had his race rider, Michael Mein, up when he sprinted 800 on the grass in 50. the last 600 in 37.8. Earlier Hi Roona hurried over 800 in 48.5. Weinmeister and his stablemate. Silver Print, appeared to be fairly evenly matched in their 800, run strongly in 48.8, the last 600 in 36.6. Star Order was going keenly alongside Fulla Cheer finishing 800 in 49.4 and continued to work keenly for another 200 m for his trainer. Eddie Low. Just a Rebel and The Chairman were abreast finishing 800 in 50. They are stablemates, but interesting rival candidates for the Owners’ and Trainers’ Handicap at the Banks Peninsula
meeting. . Aramis returned 50.8 and the. Crofter and Halfaya 49.4.
