Military vehicles
Sir,—l understand the need for the military to replace the ageing transport fleet, but I fail to see the reason for the purchase of Landrovers with large V-8 engines. They must be more expensive than the standard four- or six-cylinder engine counterparts and must be less economical to run. Could someone from the Ministry please explain?—Yours, etc.,
P. SHAW. October 14, 1981
[Wing Commander G. T. Clarke, Director of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence; replies: “After a series of exhaustive evaluation trials held in Waiouru, it was proven that the smaller engined Landßovers were not able to meet the Army’s comprehensive operational requirements.”]
