Labour bid to cost $2M

PA Wellington The Labour Party expects to spend more than $2 million in its bid to be elected the government. Releasing the party's manifesto yesterday, the president of'the Labour Party, Mr J. P. Anderton, said the party's national campaign was expected to cost a little over $1 million and the total spent by individual electorates would add another $1 million. Labour has released two manifestos — a full. 370-page book of each policy in detail, and a glossy, “mini-mani-festo." written in plain language which will be widely distributed.

The party has printed 56,000 copies of the “minimanifesto” and will put them on sale at ?1 each, as well as distributing them free to each household in key marginal electorates. The member of Parliament for Christchurch Central. Mr G. W. R. Palmer, who is secretary of the party's policy council, said the manifesto was presented with "as much clarity as possible how Labour sees the future of this country."

The manifesto, he said, was an honest and comprehensive account of how the Labour Party saw’ the next few years.

Often strongly and bluntly worded, the manifesto is called "Getting New Zealand working again." Manifesto details, page 5
