Soccer decision next week
NZPA staff correspondent London A decision on whether the World Cup soccer tie between New Zealand and Saudi Arabia will go ahead in Auckland on November 28 is expected by the end of next’ week, said F.I.F.A.’s technical director, Mr Joseph Blatter, yesterday. The world soccer body’s disciplinary committee is at present considering what action to take after violence at the New Zealand-Kuwait match earlier this month.
“I expect the committee to announce its decision by November 4 or November 5 at the latest,” said Mr Blatter from F.I.F.A.’s Zurich headquarters.
The disciplinary committee, chaired by F.I.F.A.’s vice-president, General Abdul Mustafa, of Egypt, is dealing with the New Zea-land-Kuwait game by correspondence.
The other members of the committee are from Sweden, Argentina, Iraq and Surinam. General Mustafa saw television film of the Kuwait game when he was in Sydney for the recent World Youth Cup finals.
