Sculptor 1982 Hodgkins Fellow
PA Dunedin A Kerikeri sculptor, Chris Booth, aged 32, will be the 1982 Frances Hodgkins Fellow at the University of Otago. He works/: in ethnic materials and plans to concentrate on sculpture using Central Otago rocks during his year’s tenure of the fellowship. Recently he spent five months in Otago with a film crew working as a dresser and designer of sets. He is keen to return to the area. He has worKeo in manuka, flax, hand-mode paper, and natural bouiuers but also enjoys sculpting in bronze and steel..
He attended the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts in 1967-68 and then went to Britain, where he worked as an assistant to a number of sculptors in St Ives before going to Italy for further experience. He has had his work exhibited in Britain" and in various parts of New Zealand and is represented in the collections of the National Gallery and the Auckland Art Gallery. During the last two years he has worked part-time as a set designer for films. He used to be a set designer at the Mercury Theatre in Auckland. He is married and has one c H, d.
