Win would qualify False Regal for Cup start

By G. K. YULE False Regal looks poised to take the final step to open company and so qualify for a start in the $lOO,OOO New Zealand Cup when he contests the Mazda Handicap at Addington Raceway tomorrow evening. The Regal Yankee five-year-old has fashioned a sound record this season, his most recent win being under invitation conditions at Forbury Park on October 10. A week later he was a splendid fourth behind El Regale in a similar race. Since then he has been racing at trials and he paced a splendid race for second behind Superior Chance yesterday. Armalight, which made one of her rare mistakes at the trials yesterday, is not far from her best and her handicap of 20m is unlikely to be sufficient to keep her out of the finish. She finished fourth in the Ashburton Flying Stakes early in the month when having her first start after an enforced spell. She is much too good to leave out of calculations. Right Bower has yet to finish in the money this season, but his seventh in the Hannon Memorial last Monday looked likely to be the forerunner of an early win. He also went well at the Motukarara trials last Thursday and should be . near his best. Should he be able to adopt the role of pacemaker, he could be one of the hardest to catch.

Cyllarus, D’Or Favori and Superior Chance should be capable of adding interest to the finish, while a bold run from Quiet Win will not surprise. Melton Monarch and Karnea. two of three runners handicapped on 20m, should fight out the finish to the second leg,- the Four-year-old Stakes, a race in which the chances of Kakama, Time’s Up and Stortford Lodge are highly rated.
