Another ‘open day’ mooted
The Lyttelton Harbour Board is investigating the feasibility of holding another port “open day," probably in either February or March of next year. . The first event was held on March 2 last year and. despite torrential rain, thousands of people turned out to have a look at the port, many arriving and departing by special trains. Harbour board staff and volunteers, were hard pressed to deal with the crowds and all agreed afterwards that, had it been a fine day. they would have been unable to handle the traffic. The chairman of the board. Mr J. E. Maning, said that talks are currently under way with various organisations looking towards having a Similar event. The board also plans to hold a seminar on November 10 where board members and officers will host port users and explain port policies and future plans.
