Entertainment scene

By

DAVID SWIFT

Out went the existing drummer and name; In came a new member, Gary Nottingham, and a new name — New Romance. . , / - Those are the recent changes to this Christchurch group (pictured), formerly known as The Kick. They have been playing at the

Aranui Hotel for the last eight months and will continue to do so. although some changes in lighting and stage presentation are planned. Playing is a full time job for the group, who are, from left — Dave Stuart (keyboards), Jay Peters (bass), Nottingham (drums), Mick Scheele (vocals) and Garth

Clyne (guitar). Although remaining at the same venue for several months is not every band’s cup of tea, New Romance don’t think that the stationary gig has stalled them, and crowds have been good. They like to play for their audience.

"Without the audience we

wouldn’t be there,” said Dave Stuart, adding, “We don’t do anything we don’t like.” Faris of the former identity will notice several changes, including the use of more original material. Eventually New Romance would like to enter a recording studio, since it has "never been easier” to make a record.
