More Americans visit
PA Wellington Americans are crossing the Pacific in ever-increas-ing numbers to spend their holidays in New Zealand, with half as many vacationers again this July as came in July, 1980. The latest Tourist and Publicity Department statistics show a 49.8 per cent increase in vacationers from the United States this July. Visitors totalled 4747 — an
increase of 25 per cent on last July. Japan is the next fastest growing market with steady growth of 37.1 per cent over last year. Australians still make up almost half the total visitors but their total of 13,287 in July was down on last year. Reserve Bank receipts show a healthy 27.8 per cent increase during the year over the previous year.
