No move on Twizel

Parliamentary reporter. No decision would be made on the future of Twizel until after the General Election, said the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) yesterday. The Cabinet had discussed the future of the town briefly yesterday but had made no firm decision. A party of officials from the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Works and Development, and the Housing Corporation has reported on a proposal of the Mackenzie County Council to run the town from interest received

on the invested proceeds of the sale of Twizel’s Govern-ment-owned houses and sections. At the time the proposal was made, the Minister of Energy, Mr Birch, said that he did not hold out much hope for it. An Australian entrepreneur, Mr Howard Hall, has offered a deposit of $400,000 for Twizel and to raise the balance from property sales over 90 days. The Minister of Works and Development (Mr W. L. Young) has asked for more details about this scheme.
