Noon forecast

General forecast: The south-westerly airstream should have cleared most of New Zealand by the morning but should still flow on to Gisborne with further cold showery weather. The ridge of high pressure extending southwards from the anti-cyclone over the Tasman Sea is expected to be lying across central New Zealand by mid-day and should maintain fine weather, with milder temperatures over the rest of the North Island and most of the South Island.

District forecasts: Canterbury, Westland; Light winds; some cloudy areas but mainly fine and cool. Nelson, Buller: Light winds predominating, some cloudy areas but mainly fine. Marlborough: Cold, southerlies, fresh in many places but decreasing by the afternoon. Outlook: Rain in the south and west of the South Island, probably spreading to the east. Fine in the east of the North Island, and cloudy in the west.
