Trade gap growing

PA Wellington Provisional trade figures for September show export values falling against import receipts and an excess of imports over exports of $115.1 million. The Statistics Department estimates exports for the month at $491.4M and imports at $606.5M.

In the same month of last year the comparative figures were $445.3 million and $528.6 million. The figures show that exports in the July, August, September quarter were valued on a f.o.b. basis at $1513M, compared with $1307.9M in the same period of last year.

Total imports in the same quarter were worth $1739 million on a c.i.f. basis. This compared with $1466.2M in the same quarter of 1980. Imports exceeded exports by $226 million in the quarter and in the comparative quarter of the previous year the excess was $158.2 million.
