Heidi Belle goes fast
Special Correspondent Palmerston North Heidi Belle galloped in grand style at Awapuni yesterday in preparation for a fresh start in the Awatea Handicap at Trentham tomorrow. The mare’s fast gallop was all the more remarkable in that her saddle slipped forward ' during the final stages of the gallop. Heidi Belle worked on a fast course proper and ran 1000 m in Imin 3s, the last 800 in 49s and the 600 in
36.65. She is fresh and forward for the Awatea and a big effort would not surprise. Chapel’s Gift, one of her main rivals, coasted over 1000 m in Imin ss, the last 600 in 38s. He ran a bold race on the first day and must appeal again. London Trader is fit for the Pearce. He ran one of his better gallops yesterday, recording Imin 5s for 1000 m, the final 600 in 375. He has thrived during the week.
