Boost for opossum fur
NZPA staff correspondent London New Zealand opossum fur has been singled out by London’s fashion experts for the first time. In a report on French furs. London's “Daily Telegraph" newspaper showed a photograph of a coat and scarf made in a mixture of opossum and rabbit fur. I The newspaper said that
raincoats.; lined with New Zealand opossum fur were “good investment buys". It also singled out paired “his and hers" grey herringbonetweed coats with complete linings and; wide lapels in opossum fur. One of the big fashion successes of the winter is raincoats and bomber jackets with zip-out and reversible often of opossum. A fur (buyer at one of • London’s leading department stores said, “Every three or four years 3 new fashion fur comes along;; This year it seems opossum is one of those furs. ? ;
"New Zealand opossum is seen as a sporty, attractive fur in the medium-price ; range and rrtany customers ! find it very attractive."

and Holt, the company that has arranged the first separate auctions of New Zealand opossum skins in London, said. "This is the sort of promotion New Zealand opossum fur needs ■to enhance its prestige with the world's fur buyers. Promotion of this kind can only make the fur more sought after which in turn should increase the price buyers are prepared to pay for the skins."
