‘Family Night’ draws thousands

Smiths City Market took on a Christmas Eve latenight shopping atmosphere last evening as thousands of people visited the "Free Family Night.” It was wall-to-wall people — some tall, some small, others square of shape, some oblong. There were displays to whet the appetite of all who attended from the baby in the pushchair fascinated by the Coca-cola robot to the woman eyeing the microwave oven with envy. About 40 demonstrations and displays filled the many

rooms and car-park of Smiths City Market. The St John Ambulance Brigade demonstrated mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, pizzas were created, and pointers given on taxidermy. Last year 10,000 people were said to have visited the family show, and a spokesman for Smiths City Market said this year’s show was as successful. Six years ago the "Free Family Night” started as a boat show but it has now mushroomed into a popular evenings entertainment.
