Jumper breaks ankle
PA Rotorua The owner of a light aircraft who had to parachute to safety before his plane crashed at Rotorua last Sunday jumped again on Tuesday — and broke an ankle. He is Mr Robert Mac Kay, who was one of six people who parachuted from the Cessna 185 aircraft on Sunday before it disintegrated and crashed.
One of the six, whose reserve parachute is believed to have been caught in the tailplane of the Cessna died in hospital on Tuesday. Mr Mac Kay, who has been parachuting since 1967, made his 182nd jump on Sunday. On Tuesday he made his 183rd jump, from an aircraft piloted by the same man who piloted Sunday’s flight. They
were participating in a promotion at the Rotorua lake- • front. As Mr Mac Kay neared the ground in his parachute a child ran under him, causing ' him to land more heavily 1 than he would have liked and breaking an ankle. s He was taken to Rotorua t Hospital, where his condition j yesterday was said to be / satisfactory.
