McLaughlan out
Eastern Suburbs will be without its hard-working second-row forward, Derek McLaughlan, for the Canterbury rugby league championship play-offs which begin with the major semi-final against Addington at the Show Grounds on Sunday. McLaughlan is in his final year of university studies and is completing his thesis.
A New Zealand Universities and former Canterbury representative, McLaughlan has had his first-class availability compromised in the past because of his dual commitments. Eastern, though, should not suffer too severely. Kevin Placid has returned to its pack and has displayed impressive form in the last two premiership rounds.
