Snow boogie to Webster
Charles Webster, of the United States, won both the Surf Dive n Ski and the Spalding “boogie in the bumps" contests in ideal conditions at Mount Hutt on Sunday. Webster won the Surf Dive ’n Ski event from the New Zealand amateur freestyle champion, Tony Simpson, of Nelson, in a contest notable for its high standard of ski-ing. Webster narrowly won the Spalding event, but this time his closest challenger was Hamish
Cochrane, of Christchurch. Simpson had to be content with a lowly eighth. Results were:— Surf Dive 'n Ski:— Charles Webster (United States) 1, Tony Simpson (Nelson) 2, Alister Howden (Ashburton ) 3, Randy Knudson (United States) 4, Joe Satherley (Nelson) 5. Spalding: Webster 1, Hamish Cochrane (Christchurch) 2, Geoff Hunt (Queenstown) and Doug Salberg (Canada) 3 equal, Satherley 5.
