Treasures from the wide world have landed safely at CELBAR GALLERY this week. From the United States they have brought exquisitely drawn animal and wildlife prints by Frank T. Gee. From Korea — brass animals and birds — big pieces to make a definite coffee table statement . . . especially that large brass elephant. Some lovely ducks too — even a quaint toucan. A new selection of those fabulous Incolay boxes (mostly larger boxes this time) has arrived. These boxes are made and carved from crushed stones and minerals and come in lovely soft colours. Then from closer to home — both Temuka and Richmond potteries have dinner sets now — and CELBAR GALLERY have a selection of both. CELBAR GALLERY, Merivafe Mall. Ph 557-896. The look for the college-age group this spring is CRISP. GIGGLES have interpreted this mood very* cleverly with their Robs Rags skirts. These are in cotton drill, a straight jean-cut with pockets and a. back split —in three shades... mulberry, navy, buff — for 10,12,14 years. And going so crisply, so surely, with the skirts... cotton shirts in madras checks or small Marlboro checks, in matching shades of navy, camel, mulberry. Again for 10-14 years, and as always at GIGGLES, a very reasonable price. Tree towelling gear — especially the "No Sweat" collection will be big news for summer. GIGGLES have brief shorts, singlet tops, cap-sleeved t’s and track suits in red, orange, yellow or blue towelling. And leisure suits in pretty colours of lilac, amethyst, apricot. GIGGLES, Merivale Mall. Ph 558-934. 7*— X TheVillqgeJe'rfer A new collection of gold handcrafted rings from Guenter Taemmler this month — featuring gold combined with cultured pearls. These rings are superbly made, noticeably different. I am sure I have never seen such lovely pearl rings anywhere. Also from Mr Taemmler, new stg. silver nock chains. An interesting feature of these long chains is that one section unclips — and suddenly your shorter chain (to rest at the base of the throat) is matched by your stg. silver chain bracelet. A clever design. For Father's Day shoppers,-and lookers, they suggest their severely plain heavy silver cufflinks (by Guenter Taemmler) or perhaps something from Hohnegaard glass? A heavy stemmed beer glass — or a brandy snifter — or Irish coffee glasses? From THE VILLAGE JEWELLER, 186 Papanui Rd. Ph 559-890. Lfl BDObfINGERIE FRAN (’RISE I (THE SHADES FRENCH BAKERY) I The whole world seems to stop and shop at The French Bread Shop in the Mall — it's a very interesting, very busy place! Their long French loaves (baguettes) are very popular — as are those delicious French poetries filled with rum-flavoured custard and fruits. But have you tried the brioche dinner rolls? These are sweeter — soft, buttery, yeesty — than a brood roU, and are great as a coffee snack as well as a dinner rod. And what about the petite pain aux chocolat? The chocolate breadl If you miss breakfast, have one for morning coffee and you will feel better immediately. Remember too, their slices of pizza Provencal and those little individual flans — for your lunch. Definitely bon appetit from LA BOULANGARIE FRANCAISE. Merivale Mall. Spring yes. Pretty yes. Practical yes. And different! The new clothes, the new summer mood at SIMON AND SARAH. From Susan and Samuel, soft denim blue dungarees, lifted with brightly striped trim; culotte dresses in soft cotton — a fine stripe on a background of either blue, red or yellow; and the prettiest cotton-knit sweaters yet Susan and Samuel just go on and on — getting better and better! From Angels, dreamy little blouses with sweet skirts. These sets in little print combinations, or reversestripe combinations. And with some of them, souwester sun hats and shoulder bags in the same printed cottons. A really lovely idea — for good or for good girlsl At SIMON AND SARAH, 203 Papanui Rd. Ph 557-511. L J COBBIE CUDDLERS new summer range is in, is arriving, at JOHN CRAIG’S now. Sandals win for summer . . . sandals both casual and dressed! Their flat flat sandals are fun — and all ages and stages will go for their medium heel (a scoop, almost wedge heel) range. Especially their Linen Look sandals in navy/ buff; cream/ sand. I like their plaited fronts .. . especially the dress sandals with the plaited vamps, a slightly higher heel. Look for these colours in the \ Cobble Cuddlers range at JOHN CRAIG'S . . . bran, .navy, sand, bitter chocolate, mahogany. It is a great relief to my feet to know that at long last comfort is equalled by fashion! The whisper I heard in the shop last week was that the Brazilian imports have arrived as well. Limited supply though. JOHN CRAIG'S, Merivale Mall. Ph 557-335. [ Village Wardrobe | MARILYN SAINTY has a wonderful eye for line, cut, colour. All three are combined in her Linen Collection _ just arrived at THE VILLAGE WARDROBE. Three pieces, two colour combinations. (1) A backbuttoning camisole. (2) An almost cropped jacket with an Italian line. (3) A skirt owing much to Valentino .. . the low hip yoke in contrast to the skirt but matching the hem ruffle. Choose from navy or a strong khaki/camel. JANE CROSS handkhits for summer are in now. These are knitted from 100% pure string cotton. I think you will like the v-necked, collared cabled sweaters (white or navy). Also striped sweaters (big stripes, subtle colours) and sweet little cardigans ... all pale fair-isle and pearl buttons. THE VILLAGE WARDROBE, Papanui Rd. Ph 557-387. if MERreAHE 5 |[ BOOKSHOP KTD j The word is out! September 6 is Father's Day. And MERIVALE BOOKSHOP has a card for father.
