Army coup
NZPA-Reuter Bangui The Armed Forces of the Central African Republic took control of the Government yesterday, the Army said. President David Dacko, the country’s first president, was overthrown in 1966 by the man who was to crown himself Emperor Bokassa I in 1977. Mr Dacko returned to power in September, 1979, after a French-backed coup against Bokassa, who now lives in exile on the Ivory Coast.
