P.O. ‘not for sale’
PA Wellington The Government has no intention of selling off part of the Post Office says the Postmaster-General (Mr Cooper). Speaking during the second reading debate on the Post Office Amendment Bill. Mr Cooper denied Opposition suggestions that a clause allowing the Post Office to enter into joint ventures in telecommunications could lead to the highly profitable division being sold off. "There is no likelihood of part of the Post Office being sold off," he said. The bill will also allow the Post Office Savings Bank to issue credits cards like the trading banks.
