Police praised
A retired Christchurch man is organising a nationwide “public letter" ~of thanks for the work of the police during the Springbok tour. Mr G. M. Edmonds, who last month organised a petition of about 3800 signatures welcoming the Springboks to Christchurch, said that forms would be sent to rugby clubs and members of the Society for the Protection of Individual Rights throughout New Zealand, and when completed, sent to the Commissioner of Police. Mr R. J. Walton. "Considering the strain, the stress, and the unwarranted provocation to which the police have been subjected, we regard their behaviour as commendable. They have our thanks and sincere appreciation.” the letter says.
