A ‘buzzing" in the head
Unpleasant noises in .the head are usually not a sign of a brain tumour or some psychiatric disturbance but of a disorder of the auditory system called Tinnitus.
Statistics show that as much as 17 per cent of the population in Britain suffer from Tinnitus which produces a vast variety of extremely distressing continuous and/or pulsating noises
within the head of the sufferer. On the BBC science programme on Concert radio at 7.30 p.m. one of Britain's leading authorities on the disorder talks about its symptoms and what is being done to alleviate these for Tinnitus patients. Amongst the other topics looked at in this programme is the effect of the steadily increasing level of atmospheric carbon
dioxide on the world's climate. Symphony Piero Gamba is the conductor of music.recorded by Radio New Zealand at a New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Wellington concert earlier this year. First the orchestra plays Douglas Lilburn's 1961
