Kaikoura road flooding
Heavy rain just north of Kaikoura yesterday caused surface flooding on State highway 1. A spokesman for the Automobile Association (Canterbury) said that motorists should drive carefully, in this area. Porters Pass, on State highway 73, between Christchurch and Hokitika, was negotiable only with chains yesterday morning, but by mid-afternoon could be used without chains after the road had been cleared by Ministry of Works staff using grader’s and front-end loaders.
