New opportunities for New Zealand's fashion designers and manufacturers have come with the announcement that the country’s main fashion event, the. Benson and Hedges/Helena Rubinstein Fashion Awards will be held in March 1982, in- Auckland in association with the New Zealand Wool Board.
The Auckland .fashion promoter, Maysie Bestall-Cohen,, who will co-ordinate and present the' awards says: “The scope of the new event will
be wider than in past fashion design awards,, introducing categories for manufacturers as well, as independent designers. “We are delighted with the response from manufacturers regarding their inclusion in the awards, and it is very pleasing that the New Zealand Wool Board, which has for many years been associated with Benson and Hedges in promoting fashion, has wholeheartedly supported the changes.”
The Benson and Hedges/ Helena Rubinstein Fashion Awards will be launched at a gala function at Trillo's Downtown. on Tuesday March 16, followed by a national promotional tour. Mr Seymour Jacobson, President of the Association of Women's Fashion Manufacturers (Auckland), and president-elect of the national body, welcomes the establishment of the commercial section in the awards.
He says that New Zealand women's fashion manufacturers are able to offer the buying public fashion garments which are world class in both style and quality. The section for manufacturers in the awards would be a great step forward in promoting New Zealand women’s fashion to the consumer, and Mr Jacobson feels sure that it will be well supported by the industry.
