PA Wellington An appropriation of public . money for the Food Bill, the Medicines Bill, and the Post Office Amendment Bill was authorised by the GovernorGenera! (Sir David Beattie) i. when Parliament sat at 2.30 r p.m. yesterday. I The Speaker (Sir Richard Harrison) ruled that the Social Security Amendment (No. 2) Bill was a money bill and as such did. not have to be referred to a select .com- '■. mittee. But the Minister of Health (Mr Gair) said agreement had been reached with the Opposition whereby the bill would be referred to a : special sitting of the Health : and Welfare Committee toi day, on the understanding that there would be no debate when it was’ reported i back to Parliament. The Leader of the House (Mr Thomson) moved that Government business be accorded precedence for the rest of the session. ■ A petition on behalf of the Manawatu ; Against the Springbok Tour organisation, ,by Alan Webster and 391 Others, seeking the termina:tion of the Springbok tour, was presented by Mr C. R. Marshall (Lab.; Wanganui), in the absence’ of Mr J.. A.
Walding (Lab;, Palmerston North). The annual reports of the Ministry of Defence, the Social Welfare Department, the Clean Air Council, the Railways Department, and the Justice Department were tabled. Members gave 12 notices of motion. The Income Tax Amendment Bill and the Income Tax (annual)' Bill were introduced by the Minister in charge bf the Inland Revenue Department (Mr Templeton). The Home Ownership Savings Amendment Bill was introduced by the Minister of Housing (Mr Quigley) and referred to the Commerce and Energy Committee. The Flags, Emblems, and Names Protection Bill was brought into the House by the Minister: of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet). Debate was interrupted by the, 5.30 p.m. adjournment. When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m., the Flags, Emblems, and Names Protection Bill was introduced and referred to the Statutes Revision Select Committee. The Local Government Amendment Bill was, introduced by the Minister' of Local Government > (Mr Highet), and referred to the Local Bills Select Committee. The Antarctic Marine Liv-
ing Resources Bill was introduced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Taiboys) and referred to the Foreign Affairs Select Committee. The Customs Orders Confirmation Bill, the Land Tax Amendment Bill, the Land Tax (Annual) Bill, the Estate and Gift Duties Amendment Bill, and the Customs Amendment Bill were all read a third time. Further consideration in committee of the Factories and Commercial Premises Bill was interrupted when the House rose at 10.30 p.m. Submission dates
