Big support for blood research
The National Heart Foundation is helping to support a big investigation into the proteins in the body responsible for carrying fat in the blood. Dr W. S. Hancock, of Massey University, has received a $59,000 grant from the foundation. Since 1974, the foundation has given more than $250,000 to the project.
The foundation’s medical director (Dr R. S. Hay) said there had been international acclaim for the work done by Dr Hancock s team. The research had led to a better understanding of the biochemistry of arterial disease and was essential if breakthroughs in treatment were to be made.
