Fast workouts
Special correspondent . Hastings A brilliant 600 m by Beready and Taimonda and sound workouts from Benny. Latona and Prince Simbir
were the highlights of yesterday morning’s Hastings track session. Fast work was carried out on the plough and course proper. Both tracks were firm.
Beready has the inside running and looked to be travelling better than Taimonda at the end of 600 m on the plough in 35.95. This was an excellent time and easily the fastest of the morning over this distance. Benny, preparing for the Stevens Bremner Handicap at Foxton on Saturday, finished in front of Lance after 1400 m on the plough in Imin 31.15, the last 1000 m in Imin 5.1 s and final 600 m in 38.95.
Benny has obviously improved a lot since his race at Hastings at the start of the month. Latona and Prince Simbir sprinted 800 m together in 50.65. the last 600 in 37.55.
They are race rivals in the Newth handicap at Foxton on Saturday. Both have been working well for sometime and should race accordingly.
