Discipline and law and order are much spoken of these days. The control of games on the Springbok tour has left much to be desired from our selected referees, local and foreign, in respect of head-high tackling by our overseas visitors, retaliated to by our own players. This tactic is more serious than the late tackle as the victim has his hands occupied with the ball. He is not only taken

out of continued play but could receive serious injury. Rugby is a hard, bruising, bodily-contact game but the head-high tackle is uncalled for and unnecessary. The lawful penalty and warning would curtail this hazard. Coaches have a responsibility here. Not one of the tour matches have been free of stiff-arm, elbow, or scrag head-high tackles which caused Saturday’s test match 1 * fight. A. C. RUSSELL
