Wi Tako prison escaper captured
PA Tauranga A Wi Tako prison escaper, Bruce Allan Vincent, was recaptured on the Old Tau-ranga-Rotorua Road on Saturday after the Land-Rover he was driving was shadowed by a light aircraft. Vincent, aged 23, who escaped from the Upper Hutt prison on Tuesday, will appear in the District Court at Tauranga charged with escaping and the Tauranga police said yesterday ’ that further charges were pending.
The police had pursued a Land-Rover ■ taken from Upper Hutt and believed to be driven by the escaper in Tauranga on Friday night, but had lost it. '
The vehicle was seen again at Matapihi at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The vehicle stopped about half way between Tauranga and Rotorua and the occupant was arrested by Mount Maunganui police.
