The velvet look

The present popularity of textured knitting yarns has prompted the production of one that looks like velvet when knitted up. In the yarn, it looks like a hairy caterpillar.

New out this mdnth and "called “Chenille,” it is an acrylic and wool blend produced by the English firm. Sirdar.

Its composition is 80 per cent acrylic and 20 per cent wool, so washing instructions specify cold rinse, short spin and do not hand wring. Dry flat.

Special patterns are avail-

able to suit the new yarn, most of them having plain wool in the waistband, cuff and button band.' A typical combination would be ten 50g balls of Chenille at $3.95 a ball, with three balls of plain double knitting wool. Colours still available at all four of the Christchurch Wool Baa shops are: Champagne, Avocado, Aubergine (deep mauve), terracotta (dark tan) and black. The Wool Baa has already sold out of the claret shade but it may still be available from other city stores.
