Big oil strike?
NZPA-Reuter London Norway may have struck a huge new North Sea oilfield with reserves that might perhaps rank with those of Prudhoe Bay in Alaska, the “Petroleum Intelligence Weekly” has said.
“P.1.W.,” a New York oil newsletter which is also distributed in London, said that the new field's “gas reserves are already seen rivalling those of Groningen in the Netherlands, the world's largest producing gasfield. And’now the-area is also thought likely to have the biggest oil reserves of any North Sea field so far — perhaps even enough to rank with Alaska's Prudhoe Bav. " “P.1.W.” said. But “P.1.W." said further drilling would be required before the estimates about the new Norwegian field could be confirmed, while neither the oil nor the gas was likely to be developed before the latter end of the 19905.
