‘More cabarets needed’
Christchurch has a need for ; more cabarets. - the Licensing Control Commission was told in Christchurch vesterdav.
The commission, comprising Judge Jamieson (chairman). Mr 'N. B. Wilcox, and Mrs P. M. Thompson, was considering an application by Romanovs. 152. Ltd. for a food and entertainment licence at premises at 152 Manchester Street.
Mr J. A. Storm, the governing director of Romanovs, said that Christchurch had fewer cabarets per capita than other centres. More were needed to serve the tourists passing through the
city, as well as those people living in Christchurch, The cabaret would be sited above Romanovs restaurant and be open from 6.30 p.m. to 3.30 a.m. Liquor could not be served after 3 a.n?. Mr Storm said that overseas acts would perform at the cabaret about four times a year. Top New Zealand acts and a resident band would also perform. He said the cabaret would be aimed at older people as opposed to another cabaret in the central . city ’ which catered for younger people. The commission reserved decision. It also reserved decision on an application for a food
and entertainmentTicence by The Soul Nite Club in Lichfield Street. Mr F. C. Quainoo said that he wanted to be able to serve - liquor and food on the floor above the dance floor. He planned to slop serving liquor at 1 a.m. but keep the club open until about 3 a.nr A review of the dancing and entertainment licence at
. the Cave Rock Hotel. Sumner, was abandoned when put before the commission. .. Mr W. J. Gough, representing residents living near the hotel, told the commission that the band at the hotel had changed since the complaint had been, rttade
and noise was no longer a problem. The commission noted that residents had the right to complain if noise again became a problem at the hotel. An application was granted for a food and entertainment licence for the Pagoda Court licensed restaurant; .The restaurant will be situated in- premises still being built on Colombo ’Street. The licence will be issued when the premises are completed in accordance with the plan and in compliance with the fire, health, and police conditions. The restaurant is expected to open in March. 1982.
