Developers seek second hydroslide
A second hydroslide tube al the Queen Elizabeth II Park pools will probably be approved by the Christchurch City Council.
Private developers of the hydroslides are on the verge of building entry and exit pools for them. They want to proceed with the second tube as soon as the first one is completed to give some variety to the water rides offered.
Members of the parks and recreation committee had no objection yesterday to a second tube. They were told that one ride might not cope with the demand. The council’s recreation manager. Mr A. J. Patterson, said another waterslide would increase the number of people going through the swimming pool area. That would be good for a facilityseeking more patronage. No ratepayers' money is being spent oh the hydroslide project. Car-parking Councillors agreed that $50,000 should be spent to expand car-parking facilities at Cuthberts Green. Originally. a $lOO,OOO sealed carpark had been proposed to
serve Cowles Stadium. Skellerup Hall, and other sports uses of the area. The new scheme calls for 135 parking spaces in a sealed car-park, with room for another 100 vehicles in an unsealed car-park next to the main roadway. Spreydon hall The committee said that $30,000 should be spent to improve Coronation Hall in the Spreydon Domain. A softball club. Western Suburbs, has been the hall’s main hirer, and has offered to contribute $5OOO for hall equipment, including tables and chairs.
Other work will include replacement of outside toilets, kitchen improvement, and heating improvements. Councillors said the hall could become a focal point for more community activities once the work was done. Porritt Park
An artificial surface for Porritt Park was also recommended in principle. None of the park’s main users objected to the proposal. which would mainly
benefit hockey
