Royal New Zealand Navy Works Officers Auckland & Wellington Applications are invited for positions in the Auckland Command Naval Headquarters at Devonport and Defence Headquarters Wellington for Direct Entry Officers. These positions will suit, ideally, persons who have had experience with Government or Local Bodies in the development, administration and supervision of building construction and public works, including the building services aspects. Duties In Auckland, the successful applicants will be employed under the direction of the Command Works Officer on the processing of new works projects, maintenance of existing facilities, and liaison with other government departments and contractors. In Wellington, the applicant will assist in duties relating to naval establishments, processing new work, work in hand and maintenance documentation, and functional planning of major projects. Conditions of Service: The initial term of engagement will be for five years. Service may be terminated at any time provided a prescribed period of notice is given. In certain circumstances prior service may be purchased for superannuation purposes. A competitive selection board will be held in HMNZS TAMAKI, Devonport Auckland in November 1981. Successful candidates enter the Navy in January 1982. On entry applicants will be required to complete a basic training course in Auckland. This will be followed by Service in Auckland and possibly a short period at sea before assuming the duties of a Works Officer approximately 12 months after entry. The first 12 months of service will be on probation. Rank on entry will be Sub Lieutenant, subsequent promotion and seniority being dependant upon qualificationsand experience. Qualifications: The applicant should have NZCE, NZCD, NZCB, NZCQS or NZCTP qualifications and preferably be a Registered Engineering Associate. He or she should also have experience in public works or building construction, planning, preparation of associated documentation and should be a New Zealand citizen, physically fit to RNZN standards.
