Cycle race supporters
Sir.—Are there separate road rules for the supporters and crew of the cyclists who were taking part in the Air New Zealand Grand Prix road race? On Saturday when returning from Rangiora I was held up by a large convoy of vans, cars and motor-cycles travelling between 30 and 40km7h. I was unable to pass as these vehicles were all over the road and one particular motor-cyclist travelled from the Canterbury Timber Products mill to the Sefton turnoff on the wrong side of the road. Surely these people could have moved over to the far left of the road to give those of us who wanted to pass a fair go. Good luck to the cyclists but they should teach their supporters some road rules and manners.—Yours, etc., A. BURT. July 31. 1981.
